What have we been up to?

Back on My Feet Boston launched on May 24, 2010. Here are some of our accomplishments since then:

  • Shelter residents on the teams have a 65% probability of completing their facility program versus 20% of the overall populace.
  • Back on My Feet Boston has five teams and a waiting list of four additional shelters requesting a team. BoMF is partnered with three of the four largest shelters in Boston.
  • Thirty eight (38) or 77% of current members are in employment training or schooling. Ten have secured jobs and 10 have moved into permanent housing.
  • Five hundred people attended the Boston launch.
  • More than 60 companies have lent their support to Back on My Feet since the launch. Ten race organizations have partnered with BoMF to provide over 100 free race entries.
  • Over 250 volunteers have participated on a Back on My Feet Boston team during 2010. There are currently 120 active members across five teams.
  • Over 70 shelter residents have participated in the very first race of their lives. Ten have run a half-marathon. Another 10 will be training for the Providence Half Marathon and Marathon.
  • Troy Anderson of Team St. Francis House is working full time at Long Island Shelter. His teammate Jon Riley is at the Benjamin Franklin Institute studying for his HVAC certificate. Karl Holden of Team Hope House has moved into permanent housing and has finished his first semester of a Nursing degree. His teammate Kurt Ronan has also moved to permanent housing and has a steady job.
  • John Kirtland of Team Vets is moving into permanent housing and doing community work in Plymouth. His teammate Bryson Alexander will be starting college for a Psychology degree.
